A Tale of Two Sisters
The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts honors distinguished artists and sisters, Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad, at its Spring Celebration, A Tale of Two Sisters, benefitting The Wallis, on Monday, May 7 2018, at 6:30 pm. Philanthropist Wallis Annenberg, award-winning actor Denzel Washington and prolific producer Shonda Rhimes co-chair the star-studded three-act tribute, which highlights the lives and incredible breadth of work of Allen and Rashad, including their commitment to developing the future generations of artists, especially female artists and artists of color. Allen, who has served as artist in residence at the Kennedy Center for over 15 years, has been recognized for her vast body of work with three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, five NAACP Image Awards, Drama Desk, Astaire and Olivier awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Rashad, a versatile performer, has brought laughter, tears and joy to millions of people with her numerous television, stage and movie roles, and broken new ground as a director, garnering Drama Desk and Tony awards, BET Honors Theatrical Arts Award, Peoples’ Choice Awards, numerous NAACP Image Awards, and many others. The Wallis’ Spring Celebration benefits the artistic, education and outreach programs at The Wallis which serve more than 70,000 audience members annually, including thousands of underserved students from throughout the greater Los Angeles area with limited access to the arts.
